Therapist Search Report

Most sites in therapist search results eased back this week -- but the one worth watching is Facebook, which has been on a real, month-long slide. This edition of the report was published on March 23rd, 2026

Facebook Keeps Slipping

March 23rd, 2026 Edition

Most of the top domains eased off a little this week -- unremarkable on its own; these scores wiggle around all the time.

The one worth watching is Facebook. It dropped again, and it's now lower than it was during the dip earlier this month -- a brief recovery in between didn't hold. Over the past month, it's the biggest decliner among the sites that show up when someone searches for a therapist.

And there's a flip side. LinkedIn hit a new recent high while most things around it fell, and Psychology Today tightened its grip on the very top of the page. So the two leaders aren't just holding -- they're slowly pulling away.

A timing note: this is a back-published edition. We paused for a while this spring after a death in the family; the searches kept running automatically, so the data's all here, and AI is helping us catch up on the writing.

LinkedIn is the standout -- up while the rest of the field slipped, and the most visible site for therapists by a comfortable margin. Psychology Today sits just behind it on overall visibility but, as always, owns the actual top of the page. Below the two of them, most domains gave back a little ground.

Two movers stand out, for opposite reasons. The NPI lookup site npiprofile fell sharply -- but that just unwinds an odd one-week jump it had recently, so it's a non-story. Facebook is the one that matters: its drop here is part of a steady decline, not a blip.

Domain Presence in the Top 10

This is a breakdown of the most common domains found at each search result position. The first 10 positions are the most critical, as they appear on the first page, so this breaks it down for positions 1 through 10.

Psychology Today strengthened its hold on the #1 spot, now taking close to half of it. If your profile is there, that result is almost certainly on page one when someone searches your name -- and it's getting harder, not easier, for anything to dislodge it.

That's it for this week. The main story: Facebook keeps sliding, while LinkedIn and Psychology Today pull a little further ahead.

Note: These statistics are intended to highlight broad patterns we've observed when searching for therapists by name. While we use a consistent methodology and a reasonable sample size, the results are not exhaustive. They may not reflect every search variation, every geographic region, or every change in search engine algorithms. This information should be viewed as a general snapshot, not a definitive or complete record. (And if you have ideas on how we can make our analysis even better, we'd love to hear them!)

Quill Therapy Solutions

About Quill: Quill helps therapists write clear, accurate, and professional therapy progress notes in less time. You record (or write) a brief session summary, and Quill formats those important details into a well-written note -- so you can focus on your clients, not your paperwork. And importantly, Quill does not record therapy sessions, so you don't have to sacrifice your ethics or your clients' privacy.

Also, therapists can now create their own custom documentation templates -- so whether it's an intake assessment, custom progress note format, or literally any other type of documentation, Quill has you covered.
