Therapist Search Report

Not a lot changed this past week, as the powerhouses in therapist search results hold strong. This edition of the report was published on November 3rd, 2025

More of the Same for the Most Part

November 3rd, 2025 Edition

Another week, another look at therapist search results! Things are mostly steady this time, but there are a few quiet shifts worth mentioning. NPIDB jumped nearly 4 points, while Healthgrades kept inching back after its rough October. LinkedIn and Psychology Today remain the reliable top two, with Facebook and Instagram hovering right behind them.

The middle of the field is where the action is... Lots of smaller sites jockeying for position, many of them built on public or aggregated data. Or therapist profiles through an affiliate program. Nothing dramatic this week, but the overall trend continues: stability at the top, quiet competition underneath.

The top rankings barely budged. LinkedIn still leads the pack, followed by Psychology Today and Facebook. But the mid-tier got busier. NPIDB, Healthgrades, and ProviderWire all gained small but noticeable ground, filling more of the second-page results therapists don’t always see.

It's still worth keeping an eye on Therapy Finder too, which has held steady since it's huge surge the previous week.

Psychology Today still dominates the #1 slot for therapist name searches, while LinkedIn consistently appears in the middle of page one. Headway, Zocdoc, and Mind Diagnostics round out the first-page regulars.

Further down, you’ll find the familiar crowd of data-based and public-info sites -- they aren’t going away, but they’re still being outranked by the profiles therapists actually control. These include the NPI-related sites, that we talked about the other week.

The overall theme this week is calm but competitive. The major directories are holding steady, and the mid-range sites are slowly battling for relevance.

For therapists, the takeaway’s the same:

Your best defense against all this movement and uncertainty is consistency with what you control.

Keep your key profiles, like LinkedIn, Psychology Today, and any professional website you manage, active and up to date. And please, oh pretty please, set up your own professional website and domain, regardless of where you currently work. Control those results for your name!

The algorithm will do its thing, as will companies that want to take advantage of your search results, but human content always lasts longer than the noise. And you can help define that.

Note: These statistics are intended to highlight broad patterns we've observed when searching for therapists by name. While we use a consistent methodology and a reasonable sample size, the results are not exhaustive. They may not reflect every search variation, every geographic region, or every change in search engine algorithms. This information should be viewed as a general snapshot, not a definitive or complete record. (And if you have ideas on how we can make our analysis even better, we'd love to hear them!)

Quill Therapy Solutions

About Quill: Quill helps therapists write clear, accurate, and professional therapy progress notes in less time. You record (or write) a brief session summary, and Quill formats those important details into a well-written note -- so you can focus on your clients, not your paperwork. And importantly, Quill does not record therapy sessions, so you don't have to sacrifice your ethics or your clients' privacy.

Also, therapists can now create their own custom documentation templates -- so whether it's an intake assessment, custom progress note format, or literally any other type of documentation, Quill has you covered.
