Therapist Search Report

Analysis on the top-ranking domains for therapist directories and other therapy-related websites, published weekly.

A Closer Look at Therapy Finder

November 10th, 2025 Edition

A few weeks ago, we noticed Therapy Finder starting to climb the charts — and now, with a few more weeks of data, it’s clear that wasn’t a fluke. It’s officially leading the way among the newer therapist directories. Run by SimplePractice, Therapy Finder has gained more than 10 points in visibility since it first appeared in these reports, moving from relative obscurity into the top 20 overall.

What makes this interesting is how quietly it happened. There was no major announcement or marketing blitz. Instead, its growth seems to be powered by SimplePractice’s existing user base — tens of thousands of therapists who already manage their notes, billing, and scheduling through the platform. For many, a listing on Therapy Finder appears to have been automatically (or at least easily) created, giving the directory a massive jumpstart in both content and credibility.

At the top of the field, LinkedIn and Psychology Today remain the two steady giants, followed closely by Facebook. But just below that, Therapy Finder has become one of the fastest-moving names in the mix, overtaking other mid-tier directories like Therapist.com and Headway.

It’s rare to see a new player grow this fast without heavy promotion. But Therapy Finder benefits from something most directories don’t have — a built-in connection to therapists’ real data. Because the listings are tied directly to users of SimplePractice’s EHR system, they’re automatically accurate and kept up-to-date, which is exactly the kind of consistency search engines reward. SimplePractice even knows when therapists are available, what insurance they take, etc. -- assuming you're a therapist that currently uses them for managing your practice!

Therapy Finder continued its slow, steady climb — now up more than 10 points over the past month. That makes Therapy Finder the only domain in this report showing consistent upward momentum over multiple consecutive weeks. It’s not explosive growth — it’s sustained, steady, and algorithm-friendly. The kind that usually sticks.

Meanwhile, for those who are concerned about these more generic "contact information" directories gaining ground, good news... IDCrawl dropped a few points in popularity. This is not surprising, as it's not therapist-focused... But if you're a therapist with very few other webpages to your name, websites like that can rank quite easily.

When it comes to ranking position, Psychology Today still owns the #1 slot on nearly half of all therapist name searches, and LinkedIn continues to dominate the middle of page one. Therapy Finder isn't big enough (yet) to break into this chart, but honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it did eventually.

We first spotted Therapy Finder’s rise a few weeks ago, but after watching it steadily climb, it’s clear this one deserves a closer look. Backed by SimplePractice’s vast therapist network, it’s already becoming a fixture in therapist search results.

It’s still unclear whether therapists who aren’t SimplePractice customers can join, but that exclusivity could actually strengthen its long-term position. By connecting directly to verified professionals through an existing EHR platform, Therapy Finder may be setting the new bar for what a “trusted” therapist directory looks like.

But I did want to point out: It would be unfortunate if Therapy Finder only listed SimplePractice customers without making it clear to clients (those that are browsing the directory) that this filter is in place. If you're looking for a therapist, the key is to see who all is out there! If you stumble upon something as generically-named as "Therapy Finder", you might reasonably assume it contains the entire universe of therapists, not just SimplePractice customers. (Happy to add more information to this edition if anyone has any other details on this topic!)

For now, Therapy Finder one to watch — not just as another site appearing in results, but as a signal that the next wave of therapist directories will be powered by real, accurate data. And as we’ve seen over these past few weeks, that’s exactly what Google seems to value most. (And not to get distracted, but this then feeds into AI results, etc.!)

See you next week!

Jon

Update on 2025-11-11:

My friends on LinkedIn have informed me that Therapy Finder is simply a rebranded Monarch, which was SimplePractice's previous therapist directory. This now makes a ton of sense -- all of those old links now redirect to these new links, and so Google (and other search engines) transfer that "SEO juice" (technical term) over to the new website's links. This explains why this "new" website can suddenly shoot up 10 points like it did a few weeks ago.

Some other elements that came to light on LinkedIn: The profile is opt-in for SimplePractice customers. And the CMO of SimplePractice weighed in and said "a Therapy Finder profile is included in all SimplePractice plans at no additional charge."

This is the beauty of community and working together to figure these sorts of things out! So thank you!

Note: These statistics are intended to highlight broad patterns we've observed when searching for therapists by name. While we use a consistent methodology and a reasonable sample size, the results are not exhaustive. They may not reflect every search variation, every geographic region, or every change in search engine algorithms. This information should be viewed as a general snapshot, not a definitive or complete record. (And if you have ideas on how we can make our analysis even better, we'd love to hear them!)

Quill Therapy Solutions

About Quill: Quill helps therapists write clear, accurate, and professional therapy progress notes in less time. You record (or write) a brief session summary, and Quill formats those important details into a well-written note -- so you can focus on your clients, not your paperwork. And importantly, Quill does not record therapy sessions, so you don't have to sacrifice your ethics or your clients' privacy.

Also, therapists can now create their own custom documentation templates -- so whether it's an intake assessment, custom progress note format, or literally any other type of documentation, Quill has you covered.
